2003 Harleydavidson Dyna Low Rider Specs

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider has a long history. It was introduced in 1977 as the FXS, the first “factory custom” produced by Harley. Harley-Davidson introduced the Dyna family of cruisers in 1991. The FXR line, which included the Low Rider, was discontinued in 1995 and the FXS Low Rider became the FXDL Dyna Low Rider. Harley dropped the Low Rider from its lineup for the 2010 model year.

Engine

The 2003 Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider had an air-cooled 1450 cc 45-degree V-twin engine, with two valves per cylinder. Bore and stroke were 3.75 inches by 4 inches and the compression ratio was 8.9 to 1. The maximum torque on the Low Rider was 78.2 foot-pounds at 2,900 rpm. A 49 mm carburetor delivered the fuel-air mixture to the engine.

Transmission

The Dyna Low Rider had a five-speed — one down, four up — transmission. A carbon fiber-reinforced belt final drive system transferred power from the engine to the rear wheel. Like most motorcycles, the 2003 Low Rider had a wet, multi-plate clutch.

Body

Harley-Davidson built the 2003 Dyna Low Rider around a steel frame. The Dyna version Low Rider frame was more rigid than the FXR version, providing better handling and less vibration. The 39 mm front fork and adjustable twin rear shock absorbers provided suspension. Front and rear brakes were the rotor type with two-piston calipers. Instrumentation on the Dyna Low Rider included a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge with warning lights for oil pressure, high beam, neutral and turn indicators. The Low Rider had self-canceling turn signals.

Dimensions

The Low Rider was true to its name by having the lowest seat height of any Harley-Davidson at the time, 26.2 inches or 25.2 inches with a 180-pound rider. The Low Rider was 94 inches long with a wheelbase of 65.5 inches and ground clearance of 4.6 inches. The dry weight of the cruiser was 623 pounds and it had a fuel capacity of 4.9 gallons, with a .9 gallon reserve. For 2003 Harley-Davidson offered the Dyna Low Rider in two-tone sterling silver and vivid black, or solid colors of vivid black, gunmetal pearl, luxury rich red, pearl, white pearl or luxury blue pearl.
